Even though there was mounting opposition from several quarters, former U.S. Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney of Georgia won the right to be the Green Party Presidential nominee in 2008. Hip-hop activist and journalist Rosa Clemente was selected by McKinney as her running mate. McKinney served six terms representing DeKalb County’s 4th Congressional District as a Democrat. She was defeated for reelection in 2002 and 2006. After her second defeat, she moved to California.
