Do you suppose if we offered to unfreeze some of the late Shah’s assets, the Islamic Republic of Iran would take her?

WHY….why….why….why was crazy Cynthia McKinney on a boat, attempting to breach Israeli territorial waters? A boat that was intercepted by the Israeli Navy. (more…)

Burris may owe a Senate seat to a Congressman….from Harlem!

Today, in a contraversial move, embattled and scandal-plagued Governor Rod Bladgojevich (D-Il.) named former Attorney General Roland Burris to the U.S. Senate vacancy. If he is seated, Burris will become Illinois’ new U.S. Senator and the fourth African-American ever in history to serve. But see thats the crux of the problem is that Senate Democrats claim they will unfairly seek to not seat Burris. Not because of anything Burris has ever done. Rather because of who has named Burris, Governor Bladgojevich, who was arrested by U.S. Attorneys for allegedly attempting to sell the U.S. Senate seat to an appointee who made sure that the Governor benefitted financially. Because of this arrest, Senate leaders and state leadership said that they would oppose any appointment made by Bladgojevich. But, because the state legislature did not pass a bill to fill the vacancy by a special election, the Governor made a strong point that he was bound by law to fill the vacancy. In addition, he borrowed the idea advanced by his estranged Lt. Governor, and potential successor, Pat Quinn, that Illinois deserves two U.S. Senators. (more…)

I SUPPORT ROLAND BURRIS.

burrisI support Roland Burris to be the next U.S. Senator from Illinois. He is a good man, one who I voted for in 2002. You see, that year, I was the campaign manager in the primary for Pat Quinn who was running for Lt. Governor that year. I got to know all the candidates personally and the one who impressed me the most was Roland Burris. As U.S. Congressman Bobby Rush (D-Il.) pointed out, correctly, there is no African-American in the U.S. Senate currently. (more…)

UPDATE….I have learned Blake did comment. Sorry for the oversight Blake buddy and thanks for the readers who follow along. I hope you are enjoying the blog.

I hope you will visit Blake Rutherford’s blog sometime soon. He really has a number of interesting articles. One which caught my eye was pleasing and disappointing. He did link to someone else’s commentary on the recent movie, MILK, about Harvey Milk. However, Blake didn’t offer his own commentary, but thats ok. I was hoping I’d get some insight into his opinion but thats alright. (more…)

little-rock-arkansas-state-capitolWell 2008 is almost done and it’s time to give the grades out for our top elected officials in both Washington, D.C. and here in Arkansas. I will name the elected official, give a reasoning I have determined is fair in considering their performance, and then give their grade. Hope you enjoy and you are welcome to comment, but please leave those comments to actions in office or votes cast and be more in depth than saying they are in league with Bush and Cheney.

Pat Schroeder or Gail Schoettler could be Bill Ritter’s answer for Senate.

Governor Bill Ritter of Colorado has a problem that faces fellow Governors David Paterson in New York, Ann Minner in Delaware, and depending how things go, Rod Bladgojevich or Pat Quinn or the State Legislature or the Voters of Illinois. That is the unique problem of filling a U.S. Senate vacancy.

Ritter faces a double sided predicament. On the one hand he has local interests and on the other national interests. Ritter has started to make a name for himself nationally and there could be a future for him. So he may wish to appoint someone who is not going to stay in the Senate seat for too long. Also, someone who will enable him to curry favor with a key voting bloc that will be key to his reelection in 2010. And with former Governor Roy Romer, former Secretary of Transportation Frederico Pena’, State Treasurer Cary Kennedy, and now his own Lt. Governor Barbara O’Brien all saying THANKS, BUT NO THANKS….Ritter has to make a key choice. (more…)

Anthony Weiner….THIS WILL BE the next Senator from New York.

Politics….especially when it comes to a U.S. Senate seat appointment….can be very Machiavellian. Right now, all the focus is on Andrew Cuomo and Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg for the soon-to-be vacant Senate seat. It wasn’t till I noticed, that Governor David Paterson (D-N.Y.) just returned from an overlooked trip overseas with two U.S. Congressman from New York, Steve Israel and Anthony Weiner.

Why would Paterson be seen in the company of Weiner. Israel, while he says he wants to be considered for U.S. Senate, still doesn’t seem to have that drive to go for the gold. But Weiner….well this Congressman has been obvious that he wants to move up. Not to mention, he is supposedly running for Mayor of New York City in 2009. This would be his second bid after a rather strong one that nearly forced a runoff in 2005. (more…)
