When a lil’ less than 9 hours from now, when Barack Hussein Obama, takes the oath of office for President of the United States of America, this will be monumental. It will be more than a historic moment for the African-American as well as our entire national community. But it will mean something more formidable….the genie is out of the bottle….and the United States will never be the same.

I didn’t buy into the dream at first.
I cried when he claimed victory.

I didn’t think he could make it….heck I worked against him for the campaign of one of his primary opponents for U.S. Senate.
I am glad we lost.

I have been scared to believe that one long nightmare was over….one more time of coming up short….one more moment of coulda, shoulda, woulda.
I give praise to God, for he heard the cries of his people, and he sent them a messenger.

NO….I am not saying Barack Obama is a prophet. But God has used his election and his inaugaration to remind us that liberty is a gift that God gives ALL of his children.

The White House….up until now has been just that….the WHITE House. 43 Anglo-Saxon White Males have taken that oath of office. But Obama’s election and now subsequent swearing-in means that we no longer have to look to Hollywood to see someone else other than a white male sworn in. In the immortal words of the Reverend Jesse Jackson, Jr., “Red, Black, Yellow, and White….ALL are precious in God’s Sight!”

This swearing in means that we no longer have to turn to a white guy to do it. I mean, I and many other good people are white guys. But there are women, there are Hispanic, Asian-American, American Indian, Jewish, you name it….the keys to the kingdom are truly open to all.

So thats why we celebrate so greatly. Yes, theres ties to Dr. King and the sense we have come over a great hurdle. But even more greatly….we will witness Democracy truly defined.

God bless you and keep you Mr. President. Thank you for stepping out and taking the chance.
