The Financial Times has confirmed what this blog has speculated for months….Senator Joe Lieberman (I-Ct.) is on the short-list as a running mate for Senator John McCain (R-Az.)

 As one McCain staffer has pointed out, “[McCain] loves Lieberman. And he is on the [short-]list because Lieberman has never embarrassed anyone, never misspoken. The first rule is, don’t take someone who costs you votes,” said one McCain adviser.” Continue reading



Lu Hardin should’ve never switched.

Above you see Lu Hardin with his former colleague of many years from the legislature, Mike Beebe. Beebe is Governor now and Hardin would have liked to have succeeded him, if but for a glaring problem.

There is an old Bible adage which says, “Yea, it is easier for the camel to pass through the eye of the needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.” After viewing the recent troubles of Lu Hardin, President of UCA, former State Senator in the 12th Senate District (that included Russellville), and a former strong candidate for the U.S. Senate, I have to rephrase that Biblical adage to say, “Yea, it is easier for a philandering husband in politics to find public forgiveness than it is for a party-switcher to ever receive mercy, much less redemption.” Continue reading



Dave Cuddy needs to become like Palin to WIN.

A scandal-ridden incumbent in Alaska faces a clear and present electoral danger from two opponents. Late in the primary, both of them are scrambling to gain the necessary traction to defeat the highly entrenched incumbent and win the primary. The primary voters, more aligned with their voters, and seeing a popular Democrat in the fall as an opponent choose a fresh face and the seat is saved for the Alaska Republicans.

Sound like a campaign plan for Dave Cuddy or Vic Vickers in the Republican Senate primary this year or Gabrielle LeDoux or Sean Parnell in the Republican House primary in Alaska? Actually it’s the scenario in 2006 that elected Sarah Palin over then-Governor Frank Murkowski (R), who while seeking his 2nd term as Governor, had been Alaska’s U.S. Senator from 1980-2002.

If Obama Wins….Jesse, SR. should succeed.

So what happens if Barack Obama makes history and becomes President? Well there will be many bridges to cross before then and it’s a big “IF” but IF he does win, who succeeds him in the U.S. Senate? It will be up to embattled Governor Rod Blagojevich (D-Il.) to name a successor to serve until 2010. If that happens, there’s only one name that I think should be named to the U.S. Senate….and he ain’t a Junior! Continue reading
